CHOICE has made a joint submission with the Consumers' Federation of Australia to the Productivity Commission's consultation on it's plans for analysing potential reforms to competition policy in Australia. The Commonwealth Government has tasked the Productivity Commission with assessing the likely impact of potential changes to competition settings in Australia.

Our submission urges the Commission to take extra steps to ensure the analysis pays proper regard to the actual experiences of consumers in markets. We recommend close consideration of distributional impacts that can limit the ability of people to get the best out of markets, including those living in regional or remote areas, on low incomes or otherwise experiencing disadvantage. We also urge the Commission to take a broad approach to assessing the impact of reforms on consumer wellbeing.
