CHOICE, along with other consumer advocates, made a joint submission to the Treasury's consultation on Scams - Mandatory Industry Codes.
Right now, consumers alone are bearing the cost of scams while well-resourced businesses like banks, telecommunication providers and digital platforms are allowing scammers to exploit their services to harm people.
CHOICE and other advocates call for the Federal Government to establish mandatory, strong obligations for banks, telcos and digital platforms to protect consumers from scams.
The key recommendations in the submission include the Government requiring banks to reimburse scam victims and establishing a fair, simple, fast and effective dispute resolution pathway for consumers.
